Vetting – British Standards 7858: 2012

Our background screening check follows the latest recommendations set out by the British Standards Institution regarding background screening (vetting) of potential employees in a work environment concerned with security and safety of people, goods or property.

The screening may go back up to ten years before the current employment application and applies to full time and part time employees, temporary and permanent staff, and at all levels within the organisation.

Character references may also be required in addition to the checks listed below.

BS7858 comprises of the following checks:

Identity checks:

  • ID confirmation
  • Five years address history
  • Right to Work check
  • Character references
  • SIA Licence check (if applicable)

Financial checks:

  • Bankruptcy / Insolvency / IVA
  • CCJ (Up to £10,000)
  • Credit score

Employment Checks:

  • Five or 10 years employment history
  • Gap referencing (more in-depth and extended to 31 days)

Criminal records:

  • Basic Disclosure

There is no requirement here for checking physical fitness,
