Security Officer

If you want a career as a security guard or similar security role then this course will enable you to apply for your SIA license.

In order to obtain an SIA licence, you will need to show that you are trained to the right level and have a good understanding of basic security practices making sure that your environment is safe, secure and peaceful.

To get one of the qualifications linked to Security Guard licensing you will need to take three training modules and pass three exams.

Course Content

Common Security Industry Knowledge Module

  • Awareness of the Law in the Private Security Industry
  • Health and Safety for the Private Security Operative
  • Fire Safety Awareness
  • Emergency Procedures
  • The Private Security Industry
  • Communication Skills and Customer Care

Assessment is by a 40 minute, 25 multiple choice question exam. 18/25 is required to pass.

Security Guarding Specialist Module

  • Introduction to the Roles and Responsibilities of Security Officers
  • Patrolling
  • Access and Egress Control
  • Searching
  • Technology and Systems in the Security Environment
  • The Security Officer and The Law
  • Communicating, Reporting and Record Keeping

Assessment is by a one hour, 40 multiple choice question exam. 28/40 is required to pass.

Conflict Management Module

  • Avoiding Conflict and Reducing Personal Risk
  • Defusing Conflict
  • Resolving and Learning from Conflict
  • Application of Communication Skills and Conflict Management for Security Guarding and Close Protection

Assessment is by a 40 minute, 25 multiple choice question exam. 18/25 is required to pass.

The course lasts for a minimum of 28 hours and may be delivered over four consecutive days or during weekend or evening sessions.
